Problem
In 2015, a legally binding international treaty on climate change was agreed upon and adopted by 196 parties. The goal of this treaty is to limit global warming to well below 2°C - pushing it to 1.5 degrees Celsius. In addition, zero-net carbon emissions must be achieved by 2050.To ensure the world's nations can achieve this goal, global enterprises must track and produce C02 data alongside clear action plans to reach zero-net carbon emissions by 2050.
Challenge
The client's internal design team had been working on various initial designs before we arrived, which our team then decided to explore through a heuristic analysis. Whilst the heuristic analysis produced a lot of intriguing discoveries, it was important that any changes made were backed with reliable user data.
Solution
Inspiring Designs: To address the crucial issue of sustainability, we incorporate visually inspiring designs, motivating users to take action and reduce their environmental impact. Streamlined Footprint
Creation: Recognizing the complexity of uploading emission data, our team streamlines the process, reducing user frustration and promoting increased participation in sustainability efforts. Customizable
Dashboard: Essential for large-scale enterprises, our dynamic and customizable dashboard empowers users to track progress and make informed decisions, facilitating their journey towards environmental responsibility.
Approach
As the UI Designer and Motion Specialist, I joined the team to refine and elevate the user experience while aligning the visual language with the seriousness of the climate mission.
We began by diving deep into the results of the heuristic analysis—identifying usability gaps, inconsistencies, and friction points in the existing UI. From there, I collaborated with the team to translate insights into actionable UI improvements, all while ensuring design choices aligned with user data and stakeholder goals.
I focused on creating a clean, data-driven interface that helped users effortlessly navigate through complex carbon tracking systems. The design emphasized clarity, accessibility, and consistency—so users could focus on insights, not interfaces.
For motion, I introduced subtle animations and transitions to support data visualization and interaction feedback—creating a more intuitive and responsive feel without overwhelming the user. Every motion cue was intentional: enhancing meaning, guiding flow, and improving overall usability.
Outcomes
The redesigned interface dramatically improved data readability and user flow, especially in areas that previously felt overwhelming or disjointed.
Motion design elevated the product’s interactivity, giving users smoother transitions and clearer feedback on their actions.
Stakeholders appreciated the balance between analytical depth and visual simplicity, resulting in better engagement and easier onboarding for new users.
The final output not only met BCG's high design standards but also became a flagship showcase project for Bamburai Studio, reinforcing our strength in handling data-heavy, mission-critical applications.
